iPad Screens Expected To be Made by LG, Innolux
Apple will “likely” use LG Display and Innolux Display to supply LCD screens for its new iPad device, researcher ISuppli Corporation said.
The US company will probably get LCDs for the iPad from three suppliers, according to a report by ISuppli.
Displays on the iPad use the same touch-screen technology as Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch products, ISuppli said.
The device is expected to be a “substantial” success for Apple, according to ISuppli. “A significant portion of the 200 million-plus users of iPhones, iPods and Macintoshes will want one,” ISuppli said.
LG Display is the world’s second-biggest maker of LCDs. The company agreed in January 2009 to supply display panels to Apple for five years.
Innolux, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry, the world’s biggest contract maker of electronics, last year said it would merge with LCD maker Chi Mei Optoelectronics. Bloomberg
