Anand Krishna on Wanted List After Ignoring Prosecutors’ Summonses
The South Jakarta Prosecutors Office has put spiritual guru Anand Krishna on its wanted list after the convicted sexual harasser refused to comply with three summonses from prosecutors to begin serving his prison term.
“We put him on our wanted list in early December,” the head of the prosecutors’ office, Masyhudi, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He added that Anand was known to be in Bali at the moment, and that prosecutors were partnering with Bali Police to detain him.
The Supreme Court in August found Anand guilty of sexually harassing three of his students and sentenced him to 2.5 years in jail.
The decision overturned a former verdict handed down by the South Jakarta District Court, which acquitted Anand of all charges in November of last year.
Anand maintains his innocence and has publicly rejected his imprisonment.
His lawyer, Andreas Nahot Silitonga, said last month that Anand “doesn’t want to obey the misguided appeal verdict… He [said he] has power over himself. They can take his dead body if they want.”
