A water slide at Atlantis Water Adventure Park in Ancol, North Jakarta, collapsed on Sunday, injuring at least two visitors.
Edwar Andiko Heri, 22, who was near the Kolam Luncur Octopus, or Octopus Water Slide, when told the accident occurred, told the Jakarta Globe that he saw at least two people stuck in the wreckage of the slide after a portion of it collapsed around 1 p.m.
“I was standing 2 meters away from the slide. I saw a man and a woman. The woman was trapped between concrete blocks while the man was stuck between the iron wiring,” Edwar said.
He added that the injured pair were rescued by other park visitors and lifeguards.
“Security officers and Ancol employees came a bit late, half an hour later, together with the fire squad and police,” he said.
Pademangan Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad David said that he could not confirm the number of victims.
“We are still checking on the number of victims. They were taken to Satyanegara hospital in Sunter,” he said.
“Apparently it was the decorations that collapsed, dragging down the slide,” he said.
A spokesman for the water park could not be reached for comment.
