Sydney. A massive hunt is underway in northern Australia Wednesday for a fugitive accused of decapitating a man and leaving only a hat where his head should have been.

More than 100 police officers, with a helicopter and thermal imaging equipment, were involved in the search around Darwin’s rural suburbs for Jonathon Stenberg, 56, who is considered armed and dangerous.

“To date, Mr. Stenberg continues to evade authorities,” said Northern Territory police commander Richard Bryson.

“The community is reminded Stenberg is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached under any circumstances.”

Stenberg is accused of beheading a 54-year-old man in New South Wales state last week.

Reports said the victim was found with a hat in place of his head in his ramshackle home. The man’s head is yet to be found.
