Citibank Indonesia again failed to attend a civil hearing over the death of Irzen Octa, who died after being questioned at a branch in Jakarta by debt collectors hired by the bank.
“The defendant was absent for the second time. The trial session is adjourned and will resume on June 9, 2011,” presiding judge Pramoedhana Koesoemaadmadja said at the Central Jakarta Court on Thursday.
Octa’s widow Esi Ronaldi is seeking Rp 3 trillion ($350 million) in damages in the civil suit.
“We respect the judicial process,” Ficky Fiher, the lawyer representing IEsi , said outside the court. “If [Citibank representatives] fail to show, then the trial will proceed without the presence of the defendant.”
