Clemency Cuts Jail Time for German

A German man who was sentenced to five years in prison for drug possession has had his sentenced cut by two years after his appeal for clemency was approved by the president.

Amzer Simanjuntak, a spokesman for the Denpasar District Court, said the response to the request by Peter Achim Franz Grodmann, 52, was received on Monday. Grodmann was arrested in March 2010 with 2.2 grams of marijuana in his possession. He was initially sentenced to 19 months in prison, but prosecutors appealed and he was given five years.
