The dockyards next to the Buriganga River in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, are home to a slew of industrial factories and metal workshops. Dozens of dockyards, which have been in operation there without authorization for half a century, have been accused of polluting the Buriganga and encroaching on the riverbank, reducing its navigability.
