Football: De Jong Signs Three-Year Deal With Milan
Rome. Tough-tackling Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong has been included in the AC Milan side to face Bologna after signing a three-year deal, the Serie A cub have announced.
Milan have not yet announced the price of the transfer, but after he put pen to paper Milan said in a statement: “Milan have officially signed Nigel De Jong from Manchester City.
“The Dutch midfielder has signed a three-year contract which ends on June 30, 2015.”
Dutch international De Jong, a product of the Ajax school of football, joined City from German side Hamburg in 2009 and played 104 times for the Citizens.
His arrival may go part way to soothing the Rossoneri fans’ pain of losing Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, both to Paris Saint Germain, and several other key players including new Inter recruit Antonio Cassano.
De Jong’s capture will also sit nicely alongside the signing of Spaniard Bojan Krkic on a one-year loan deal from AS Roma.
On Thursday Milan, who finished runner-up in last season’s Serie A four points behind Juventus, were drawn in Group C of the Champions League with Zenit Saint Petersburg, Anderlecht and Malaga.
Milan opened their 2013 league campaign with a shock 1-0 home defeat to Sampdoria last weekend and will look to make amends Saturday away to Bologna.
