Jakarta Globe
Indonesia’s top tennis player failed to qualify for the Australian Open tournament on Wednesday.
Christopher Rungkat lost the first round of the men’s qualifying singles to world No. 183 Peter Polansky of Canada, falling 6-3, 6-2. Christopher is ranked No. 260 in the world.
Christopher’s performance makes him the first Indonesian singles player who failed to secure a spot in the final round of the qualifiers in a Grand Slam. There are three rounds in the qualifying division before the Grand Slam event begins on Jan. 14.
Polansky will face Austrian player Andreas Haider-Maurer, who defeated Kazakhstan’s Evgeny Korolev.
