Islamic Banking Assets in Indonesia to Rise 45 Percent Next Year

Shariah-compliant assets held by Indonesian financial institutions may increase 45 percent to Rp 130 trillion ($14.4 billion) in 2011 from an estimated Rp 90 trillion this year, Mulya Siregar, head of Shariah banking at Bank Indonesia, said on Monday.

Indonesia’s Shariah-compliant banking assets rose 35.5 percent to 49.5 trillion rupiah at the end of 2008, from 36.5 trillion rupiah at the end of 2007, according to BI data.
