Jakarta Police Confiscate 382,000 Ecstasy Pills and 30.5 Kg of Crystal Meth
Jakarta police confiscated 382,000 ecstasy pills and 30.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine during drug raids from the end of March until mid April.
“During the drug raids from March 29 to April 11, 16 suspects were arrested,” Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Thursday. “Four of them are Malaysians, one is Chinese and 10 are Indonesians.”
Rikwanto said the ecstasy pills are worth Rp 114.6 billion ($12.49 million) and the crystal methamphetamine is worth Rp 45.7 billion.
“They will be charged with narcotics law articles 114, 132 and 112 with death as the maximum sanction,” Rikwanto said.
From January to April 2012, the Jakarta police narcotics division said it had confiscated 1,022,000 ecstasy pills and 123 kilograms of crystal meth.
Deputy director of the Jakarta police narcotics division Adj. Comr. A. Rachman Wibowo said most of crystal meth was produced in North Asia while the ecstasy pills were mostly produced in Malaysia.
“The suspects brought them [to Indonesia] through sea transportation, with fishing boats and kept them in suitcases,” Rachman said. “We arrested most of them in Jakarta and Lampung.
