KPK Questions Agung Laksono Over PON
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will finally question Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono on Friday after he failed to attend two separate summons this week.
But Agung told journalists that he did not intend to turn down the KPK’s requests on Tuesday and Thursday — rather, he said he was waiting for the commission to reply to his letter.
Agung is being questioned as witness against the testimony of suspect Taufan Andorso Yakin in a bribery case linked to this year’s National Games (PON) in Riau province.
A 2010 Riau provincial decree on PON stipulated how much money was earmarked for the construction projects for the upcoming games, as well as how payments should be distributed to contractors.
The construction firms allegedly paid Rp 900 million ($98,000) to provincial legislators to mark up the cost of the PON projects.
Agung said he anticipated the summons by the KPK because of his position as a minister and knowledge of the PON machinations.
The KPK has named six suspects on the case, including Taufan, deputy speaker of the Riau legislative council.
Agung is not the first man from Golkar party to be questioned in the case. Lawmakers Setya Novanto and Kahar Muzakir were also called in front of the KPK.
