Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono will be questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday as witness against the testimony of a suspect in a bribery case linked to this year’s National Games (PON) in Riau province.
“Agung . . . will be questioned as witness against TAY (Taufan Andorso Yakin),” Priharsa Nugraha, spokesman of KPK, said on Tuesday. But Priharsa declined to say exactly how Agung, a Golkar party member, is involved in the case.
A 2010 Riau provincial decree on PON stipulated how much money was earmarked for the construction projects for the upcoming games, as well as how payments should be distributed to contractors.
The construction firms allegedly paid Rp 900 million ($98,000) to provincial legislators to mark up the cost of the PON projects.
The KPK has named six suspects on the case, including Taufan, deputy speaker of the Riau legislative council.
The other five are Riau legislators M. Faisal Aswan of Golkar, Muhammad Dunir from National Awakening Party (PKB), Eka Dharma Putra, an official at the Youth and Sport Agency in Riau, Rahmat Syahputra, an employee of state-owned construction company Pembangunan Perumahan (PP) and the former head of the Youth and Sports Agency of Riau, Lukman Abbas.
According to the allegations, several of the accused colluded to secure a kickback.
Agung is not the first man from Golkar party to be questioned in the case. Lawmakers Setya Novanto and Kahar Muzakir were also called in front of the KPK.
Beside Agung, the KPK also plan to summon House Secretary General Nining Indra Saleh.
