‘Laskar Pelangi’ Kept Alive With New Book and CD

Writer Andrea Hirata, whose 2005 novel “Laskar Pelangi” (“The Rainbow Troops”) enchanted Indonesian readers and was adapted for the big screen three years later, has published the “Laskar Pelangi Song Book.”

The book has short stories by up-and-coming writers who were inspired by the original novel, as well as a CD with five songs, performed by newcomers to the music industry.

Andrea said that the songs represent his love for Belitung, the mining island off the east coast of Sumatra.
