A KT-1 Woong Bee exercise plane crashed and burned at the eastern tip of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.

The pilot Maj. Andi Wijanarko and its passenger, Udayana’s Regional Military Commander Maj. Gen. Rachmad Budianto ejected themselves to safety.

The plane, flown by Maj. Andi Wijanarko, was one of five exercise planes in a “Terbang Gembira” (“Joy Flight”) activity in Bali.

Witnesses said that the plane crashed when it was about to land at the airport after performing an aerobatic maneuver.

The activity was to introduce the KT-1 Wong Bee to the Bali government. The plane itself is normally used to train Air Force pilots.
