Minister Urges Employers to Organize Mudik Traveling
Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar has called on companies to provide transportation — namely buses — to allow their workers and families to travel in groups to their home towns during the Idul Fitr holiday.
“I have urged governors, district heads and mayors to ask companies in their regions to organize grouped homebound journeys for their workers and families,” Muhaimin said in Jakarta on Friday.
He also asked the regional heads to set up task forces to help facilitate travelers joining the Idul Fitri exodus, or mudik. By organizing group traveling for their workers, the companies will also create harmonious relationships with their employees, Muhaimin added.
“God Willing, organized group homebound traveling will increase workers’ productivity. The government appreciates companies that organize grouped journeys,” he stated.
There are at least five major companies that organize buses for the tens of thousands of workers who intend to travel for Idul Fitr holidays annually, Muhaimin said.
Indonesian Muslims will celebrate Idul Fitr on Aug. 19 and 20 at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, when they typically travel to their home towns.
