Newest kid on the block in the crowded, competitive Jakarta upmarket dining scene is Negev, which describes itself as a casual dining restaurant and lifestyle bar, set amid an abundance of paintings, sculpture and carvings. Paintings are even slung from the matt-black, industrial-style ceiling.
The menu contains nuances of Spanish, Italian, French and Asian cuisine while the gallery bar is complete with earthy tones, modern sculpture and resident London “Chelsea-boy” mixologist Daniel Alexander. With experience in Sydney, Marbella and The Maldives, his red or white wine sangrias are a speciality, while his Mojitos – minty, refreshing and perniciously alcoholic – are temptingly more-ish and will leave you delightfully mellow.
Located close to Mampang intersection in an enclave that includes Puro restaurant and Blowfish bar, with Dragonfly nightclub just a stone’s throw away, this venue promises to keep pulling in the punters, attracted by a heady blend of arty ambience and cool cocktails.
