The two main engines of a diesel-fired power plant in Jayapura’s Waena were destroyed when a fire broke out at the facility on Monday night, leaving many without power.

The fire crippled the two engines, disrupting the supply of electricity to some parts of Jayapura, Papua’s provincial capital, until Tuesday afternoon. Local police are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Firemen and employees of state electricity firm PLN, which runs the plant, worked together to extinguish the fire, Indonesian news portal liputan6.com reported.
