Party On, Geeks!
Awis Mranani
Geek is no longer a lame, derogatory term to use these days. While the dictionary may define geek as “an unfashionable or socially inept person,” Jakarta demonstrates the opposite.
Walking around the capital, one will find the cool cats are those who button up their flannel shirts and wear a huge vintage eyeglasses despite their 20/20 vision. They are often busy on their iMacs and DSLR cameras.
Owing to the fact that the “geek” culture is mushrooming all over the city, party organizer Subordinates is bringing the “Feels Like Geek” party for the third time to the Big Durian’s hippest crowd.
The dress code? Your best, nerdiest, geekiest outfit!
“We are bringing the geek party back because we are the only ones who have this kind of party in Jakarta and the previous ones were very successful,” said Wilson Chang, one of the organizers from Subordinates.
“We had the first geek party in January last year and the second one in April, which attracted almost 800 guests. It was very packed, crazy but fun.”
The party is open to the public and free. The partying geeks need only to wear a pair of eyeglasses and vintage clothing and they’re good to go! Subordinates will give out free geek glasses to the first 100 guests to crash the party.
Expect some oldies and R&B mash-ups by Subordinate’s DJ Shamp, DJ Vic, DJ Dunno, DJ Agata and DJ Gerry BLZ.
