Police arrested 34 people on Friday afternoon during a raid in the notoriously drug-ridden neighborhood of Kampung Ambon in Cengkarang, West Jakarta, seizing at least two kilograms of marijuana.
The West Jakarta Police also seized 140 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 10 motorcycles and some other items.
“Thanks to support from all parties, we successfully arrested 34 people, consisting of 27 men and seven women, during our operation this afternoon,” West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Suntana told a press conference on Friday evening.
Suntana said the raid was conducted in 12 different locations in Kampung Ambon. The illicit drugs had an estimated value of Rp 274 million ($29,300), he said.
“We’ve detained eight people because they were found using and possessing narcotics. We’re still processing the others. Yes, we’ve performed urine tests on them,” Suntana said.
Some of them might be dealers, Suntana said.
“Hopefully we can find more,” Suntana said.
The 34 people arrested by the police were facing a maximum of 15 years in jail if convicted, Suntana said.
