Police Arrest Suspect in Bandung Court House Attack
Bandung. Police have arrested the man accused of a brazen court house attack on corruption suspect Sistoyo on Wednesday, reported Antara.
The man, identified as D.S., reportedly told police the attack was meant as a message to corrupt public officials, calling the knifing a form of “shock therapy.” A former activist with a watchdog group, D.S. allegedly slashed Sistoyo’s forehead with a knife moments after he finished testifying before the Bandung Corruption Court.
Sistoyo, a prosecutor from the West Java town of Cibinong, was standing trial on graft charges after Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officials allegedly caught him receiving Rp 99.9 million ($10,989) in bribes from a businessman. The attack left Sistoyo bleeding heavily from his head, Antara reported. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
D.S., of Bandung, allegedly told police he felt betrayed by Sistoyo and other corruption suspects, who, in his words, were eroding the public trust.
The alleged attacker has not yet been named a suspect by the police.
