Poor Mapping Puts Millions Of Hectares of Forest at Risk

Confusion over where protected land ends and forestry and mining concessions begin could see the country lose almost five million hectares of forest, a Greenpeace activist said.

Kiki Taufik said on Wednesday that overlaps in maps produced for the government moratorium on new forestry concessions had resulted in some four million hectares of primary forest and 0.9 million hectares of peatland losing their protected status.
