Record Floods Trap Hundreds In Bandung
Hundreds of residents in Baleendah subdistrict, Bandung, West Java, were trapped in the attics or on the roofs of their houses after a flood submerged the region on Saturday.
The flood was the worst ever to hit Baleendah, said Heni, a resident of Cieunteung village. Local Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) officers and villagers worked together using rubber boats to rescue and evacuate people trapped in or on top of their houses.
Floods triggered by incessant heavy rains and the overflowing Citarum River inundated about 6,000 houses in Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot and Bojongsoang, with the waters reaching up to two meters in height.
