South Sulawesi Girl Raped by Bus Driver
A female junior high student in Parepare, South Sulawesi, was raped by a bus driver this week, the latest case in a spate of violent rapes committed on public transportation vehicles in Indonesia.
The driver, identified only as I.R., was arrested by Gowa Police on Thursday, police spokesman Andry Lilikay said on Friday.
I.R. told police the incident occurred on Tuesday evening. I.R., who plies the Parepare-Makassar route, said he picked up the girl, identified only as S.W., in Parepare. She was on her way to visit a relative in Makassar.
He told police he found an excuse to drop off his other passengers so he would have the chance to be alone in the vehicle with S.W. and rape her.
He then took her to her relative’s house before returning to Parepare.
“He has admitted to everything,” Andry said.
I.R. is being charged with violating the Child Protection Law and faces five years in prison.
