Student Dies Climbing E. Java Mountain
One climber died and several others were trapped in cold conditions on Mount Argopuro in Situbondo, East Java, over the weekend.
Officials identified the dead man as Probolinggo University student Zainul Arifin.
“We have sent a team to assist search and rescue efforts to evacuate the 13 other climbers,” the head of the Situbondo disaster mitigation agency, also named Zainul Arifin, said on Sunday.
He added that 16 students began the ascent last Wednesday, while two students managed to make it down after weather conditions worsened on the mountain.
