Two Guards in Bogor Killed Trying To Stop Motorcycle Thieves
Bogor. Two security guards at the Bogor Agricultural Institute were shot and killed on Friday while trying to stop two men from stealing a motorcycle.
Suhardi, 46, was shot three times in the chest and stomach while Supriyatna, 40, was shot twice in the chest.
Syaiful, a student at the institute, said the incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. as people started to arrive at the Al-Hurriyah mosque for prayers.
Loud shots were then heard from the mosque’s parking lot. “I rushed to the parking lot, and by the time I arrived I saw Supriyatna lying on a pool of blood and Suhardi face down, dead,” he said.
Santoso, another student, said one of the thieves pulled out two pistols from his jacket using both hands and opened fire as the guards approached them.
After shooting the guards the thieves fled the scene, pointing the guns at approaching students.
Dramaga subdistrict police chief Adj. Comr. Pahyuni said investigators immediately launched a manhunt for the pair while also analyzing the crime scene.
“We have coordinated with the nearest precincts to track down their whereabouts,” the officer said.
Pahyuni said the bodies of the victims were undergoing autopsies at the Indonesian Red Cross Hospital.
Bogor Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hery Santoso said investigators found an abandoned motorcycle as well as jackets and helmets believed to belong to the suspects.
