Yale-National University of Singapore Liberal Arts College to Offer 2 More Degree Courses

The Yale-National University of Singapore (NUS) liberal arts college will offer two professional degree courses on top of their bachelors’ of arts and science programs.

Selected students can enroll in a five-year double degree program in arts and law which integrates humanities, sciences and social sciences with professional legal training. They can also pursue a master’s in environmental studies from Yale University after completing their four-year bachelor’s degree.

The liberal arts college is a collaboration between NUS and America’s prestigious Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Classes will begin in August 2013 with an initial enrollment of 150 students. The number is expected to increase to 1,000 later in the year.

NUS acting executive vice-president of academic affairs Professor Lily Kong, said at a press conference on Thursday, that she is confident there will be positive demand for the college’s courses. She added that students will be well-prepared to land jobs even in a recession.

The Yale-NUS college has received about 2,000 applications for faculty positions and will make about 30 offers in the next few months. The college plans to recruit 50 faculty members before it opens in 2013 and subsequently, recruit another 50 more.
