Washington. US authorities are returning to France a painting that was stolen nearly a century ago.

Officials with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement will hold a repatriation ceremony Thursday in Washington to return a 19th-century canvas by French realist painter Jules Breton.

The name of the painting translates to “A Fisherman’s Daughter.” French officials say the painting was commissioned by the city of Douai in 1875, and stolen from a city museum in 1918 at the end of World War I by the German Army.
