Someone should ask Ahmad Dhani's ex-wife what she thinks of polygamy... I'm sure she has a different opinion.

From a religious point of view, human is somewhere between animal and angel. And we know animal is polygamist. I read a book that observing animals polygamist behavior (including polyandry - a queen with many male partners), conclude, human monogamy is the best model to thrive and survive population. I do not remember the detail, but it refers to trust, and for one to realize his or her full potentials.

Ultimately, it is us muslims that give Islam a bad name. Polygamy does not degrade women. But it's us muslim men that make use of Allah's silence to give in to our lusts (nafsu), and thus degrading women.

The solution in the long term will be to educate, and urging all muslims to go back to the Quran. All the answers are there. By banning anything, is only a short term solution, as in all cases, there are rebels, and shaytan IS everywhere, and shaytan has befriended our jiwa. Thus we must be strong to resist the coercions and temptations.

Ahmad Dhani, the outspoken leader of the band Dewa 19, has expressed support for nikah siri, or unregistered religious marriages.

Entertainment Web site Cumicumi.com quoted Dhani as saying that if there’s a ban on nikah siri, then there should also be a ban on premarital sex.

“It would be odd if those engaged in premarital sex faced no charges,” he said. “It would be ridiculous if the government paid no attention to those who engage in premarital sex.”

Dhani also said he disagreed with the idea that polygamy degraded women.

“[To think that] would be to insult the Prophet Muhammad.”
