The Embassy of the Republic of Korea will kick off its cultural week on Friday. Over a period of one and a half weeks, Oct. 9-18, events will be held at different venues throughout the city.
The week starts with performances on Friday evening at Balai Kartini, where Korean dancers and musicians are scheduled to showcase the East Asian country’s traditional and contemporary culture. The lineup includes a performance by the “B-Boys,” an internationally renowned professional break dance team.
Other highlights are the screenings of five Korean movies at Blitz Megaplex in Pacific Place, an embroidery exhibition at the National Museum and an agricultural exhibition at Grand Indonesia, at which visitors can sample a fusion dish, kimchi nasi goreng . A free concert at Usmar Ismail Hall that will bring together Korean and Indonesian musicians on stage will round out the events.
“Even though we have organized some Korea-related cultural events in the past, this year, it will be on a larger scale,” said Ha Hyeng-so, first secretary at the embassy, at a press conference on Monday.
“We are going to try to make the Korean Cultural Week a regular, annual event.
“We are aware of the fact that Korean films are quite popular here in Indonesia, as is Korean pop music,” he said.
“That’s why we are trying to invite a Korean actor or musician for our next event.”
