No apology needed - having different opinions, understandings, views are all part of being human. Some views we like, some hurt us (usually because they pang some guilt) others offend, some allow us to look at things differently - but in the end of the day debate is 90% constructive and 100% preferable to violence

The whole Saudi thing is mind boggling Jet. They simply are the most unpleasant people that sit on space ship earth - I really cannot think of one positive thing to say about them, not one. They abuse and oppress their own, have a view of non Saudis that is akin to dogger, they fund and fuel hatred everywhere (even the MUI acknowledge it) and despite this they set themselves up as the moral guardians for 1/4 of the worlds population.. and worse than that you don't have to look far to see people holding them in awe

DrDez...please accept my apology for my previous outburst in a posting sometime ago. You probably don't remember it and probably you do. Whatever it is I may have had a bad day but anyhoo you are alright to me.

Anyway on another note, what's mind boggling is that the Saudi Royal family is the sole guardian of Mecca. Hmmm....

No I never quit.. sometimes I retrench, but never quit, never have, doubt if I ever will. I suspect my wife will get a second opinion if I die before her since I may well be debating with the grim reaper about a way back - Life is for living

I have said it before that it is probably just as well I am an atheist because if I was religious the fire in my belly would be extremely hot .. If I piss you off well I am sorry I don't intend to (not often anyway)

Anyway - this poor guy is set to die one feels if he gets 500 lashes which is far more important that the Bali boy.

early...always Jet - I will sleep when I am dead - its such a waste of one's life sleeping.

Imagine we live to be the same age (at today 83) - Consider if you have 8 hours per night and I have 5 (which I do) Then I have over 83 years spent 90000 extra waking hours or approx 10 years living my life whilst you have been asleep.

its a stat that is quite staggering don't you think

Sydney. An Australian man has been sentenced to 500 lashes and a year in jail by a Saudi Arabian court after being found guilty of blasphemy, Canberra said on Wednesday.

Reports said Mansor Almaribe, 45, was detained in the city of Medina on Nov. 14 while making the hajj pilgrimage and accused of insulting companions of the prophet Mohammed.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said he was sentenced on Tuesday and Canberra’s ambassador in Saudi Arabia had been in touch with authorities to plead for leniency.

“The Australian ambassador has been in touch with Saudi authorities after a 45-year-old Australian man was sentenced by a court in Saudi Arabia to one year in jail and 500 lashes,” a DFAT spokeswoman said.

A consular official attended the sentencing, where Almaribe was initially slapped with a two-year jail term which was subsequently reduced, the spokeswoman added.

The Melbourne Age has previously said the father-of-five, who could not afford a lawyer, suffers from diabetes and heart disease, with grave fears for his health.

His eldest son, Jamal, told the newspaper this week that his father had been reading and praying in a group when accosted by religious police and arrested.
