@ blightyboy: Agree 100% with your comments re DrDez. It's good to see some investigative journalism in the JG....

Blighty - in defence of the president (any here) they will always be ineffective because of the nature of money politics - I often rant at him but he is sadly nothing more than a figurehead - I dont think we have an executive leadership more likely a group of 'elite' behind the scenes who run us like a mafia - Not unlike many other parts of the world including many Western nations - For them its bankers for us....well.

WebEd - think you should give DrDez a job.

In fact I think he would make a damn good President.

Thanks - My actual understanding is that a deal has been reached by which he will not seek reappointment/election - he will not go to the DPR etc thus presenting the illusion of his departure, but he remains in receipt of all salaries and benefits. His real punishment is that his investment to get into the DPR was probably greater than his return.

He also of course has faced no criminal charges

My source may be wrong - but he seldom is in DPR matters

@DrDez: We don't have the story. It slipped by us as well. I found the news about Arifinto being replaced through a search of other news sites. No mention of him still drawing pay, and our reporters have yet to hear that as well (which, of course, doesn't mean it isn't possible). WebEd

Bangalore. Three state ministers from southern India, including one with a portfolio for women and child development, resigned on Wednesday after they were accused of watching porn in the local assembly.

The ministers from the ruling right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were filmed by local television watching graphic footage on their mobile phones on Tuesday while other lawmakers in the house were debating legislation.

“We have resigned to avoid embarrassment to our party and not give the opposition an opportunity to disrupt the assembly proceedings today,” state minister for cooperation Laxman Savadi told reporters.

“We were watching a clipping of an incident for a discussion on the rave parties held at St. Mary’s Island [on the western coast of Karnataka]. It was not a porn clip,” he explained.

Karnataka’s minister for women and child development, C.C. Patil, and minister for ports and fishery Krishna Palemar also stepped down.

In the television footage, the ministers can be seen watching a woman dancing, undressing and then indulging in a sex act. They passed their mobile phones amongst themselves.

“It is a shameless act. The three ministers have submitted their resignation. We will set up an inquiry committee to probe the incident,” said a spokeswoman for the BJP, Nirmala Sitharaman, in New Delhi.

A survey conducted by India Today magazine in 2008 found that three out of five men and one out of five women approved of pornography, which is illegal but widely available in India.
