Adriyanti Firdasari continued her fine run in the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold on Friday by securing a semifinal berth in the women’s singles.

Adriyanti, ranked No. 27 in the world, pulled off a stunning win against the tournament’s No.3 seed Eriko Hirose of Japan with a 21-17, 21-15 victory in a match at Cotai Arena, Macau City.

For Adriyanti, it was her best result of the year, having failed to make it past the second round in her three previous international tournaments – the All England, the Singapore Open and the Indonesia Open.

The other semifinal match will see no.4 seed Zhou Mi of Hong Kong play China’s Li Xuerui.

In the men’s singles, Indonesia’s Simon Santoso crushed Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong 21-6, 21-5 in just 20 minutes to qualify for the semifinal.

The No. 4 seed, now faces a tough match on Saturday against top seed and world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei.

Sony Dwi Kuncoro, No. 3 seed, failed to qualify as he fell 21-17, 16-21, 25-23 to eight seed Bonsaak Ponsana of Thailand.

On what proved to be a good day for Indonesia’s shuttlers, top seeds in the mixed doubles, Hendra Aprida Gunawan and Vita Marissa also cruised into the last four by beating compatriots Muhammad Rijal and Debby Susanto 21-16, 21-19 in their quarterfinal match.

Hendra and Vita will now face Thai pair Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam in today’s semifinal.

And in the men’s doubles, second-seeded Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan look on course to win their first title of the year after moving into the semifinals with a convincing 21-11, 21-16 win over Japan’s Yoshiteru Hirobe and Kenta Kazuno.
