Liuzhou, China. Chinese ace Lin Dan claimed the World Super Series Finals title on Sunday, defeating his compatriot Chen Long in less than an hour, 21-12, 21-16.

The rapid victory gave “Super Dan” badminton’s first-ever “Super Grand Slam,” with the 28-year-old Chinese pin-up, already the sport’s most decorated player, having now won all nine of its premier titles.

Lin, who played in the event for the first time after badminton superpower China boycotted in 2008 and 2009 and he didn’t qualify in 2010, added the Finals title to his Olympics, world championships, World Cup, All England, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Asia Championships and Asian Games wins.

Lin, who earned a $40,000 cash prize, breezed past his long-time foe, Danish veteran Peter Gade, to set up the final with Chen, who created the shock of the series after beating defending champion and world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, a three-time champion of the tournament, in the semis.

Danish duo Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen denied China a clean sweep of the events after the defending champions trounced their Chinese opponents Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong in the men’s doubles final, 25-23, 21-7.

Boe and Mogensen, the 2011 All England champions, were the more aggressive pair in the final, but found their back to the wall as they trailed 20-16 in the opener.

The Danes, however, used their experience and guile to slowly reel in their opponents who squandered six game points before losing 25-23.

The Chinese duo were spent in the second game and succumbed 21-7 to hand the Danes the top prize of $42,000.

Two other doubles champions from last season’s tournament also retained their titles.

Chinese pair Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang took just 33 minutes to beat Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min-jung of South Korea, 21-8, 21-12, to clinch the women’s doubles title.

It was an all-China affair in the mixed doubles final, with Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei claiming an easy victory over Xu Chen and Ma Jin, 21-13, 21-15.

In the women’s final, Wang Yihan of China proved too good in the end for Saina Nehwal of India, winning 18-21, 21-13, 21-13.
