Singapore badminton has received a $6.2 million financial boost after Chinese sports brand Li-Ning agreed to a four-year sponsorship deal until 2013.

“Our strategic direction for 2009 and the subsequent next five years will involve overseas market development, together with our aim to become the sporting brand synonymous with badminton,” Vivien Lim, a senior official of Li-Ning Sports Singapore, said in a statement. The deal will also include the title sponsorship of the Singapore Open super series.

“Their generous sponsorship would help us accomplish many things,” Singapore Badminton Association chief Lee Yi Shyan said. Reuters
