Taufik Hidayat in recent action. He is just one of two Indonesians left remaining at the Swiss Open, continuing the nation's run of poor form.

Indonesia’s Super Series slump shows no signs of abating any time soon.
Having missed out on titles in South Korea, Malaysia and the All England, Indonesia’s chances of success at the Swiss Open took a further hit. Men’s singles shuttlers Taufik Hidayat and Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka were the country’s last remaining hopes after the first round.
Most national team shuttlers were not in the draw for the tournament at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. The Indonesian Badminton Association decided early in the All England to bring them home for more training before the Thomas and Uber Cups, leaving only Dionysius and Maria Febe Kusumastuti in the draw.
Taufik, seeded fourth in men’s singles, needed three sets before seeing off Ukrainian qualifier Dmytro Zavadsky 21-18, 19-21, 21-12. He advanced to face Japanese qualifier Kazushi Yamada, who reached the second round when Taiwan’s Hsieh Yu Hsing retired with an injury.
Dionysius reached the second round after defeating Eric Pang of the Netherlands 21-14, 21-16, setting up a second-round match against No. 8 seed Chen Long of China. Taufik and Dionysius played their second-round matches after press time.
Victory would pit the shuttlers against each other in the quarterfinals, with a possible semifinal against No. 2 seed Lin Dan of China or fifth-seeded Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark.
The Netherlands enjoyed some men’s singles success in the first round, with Dicky Palyama knocking off No. 6 seed Jan O Jorgensen 21-14, 21-10.
Indonesia’s two seeded men’s doubles pairs were sent packing early. Third-seeded Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan, semifinalists last week at the All England, bowed out 21-19, 21-18 against Chen Hung Ling and Lin Yu Lang of Taiwan in the first round.
Sixth-seeded Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan followed them out of the tournament, losing 21-19, 21-17 to Poland’s Adam Cwalina and Michal Logosz.
Maria had a short stay in the women’s singles draw, losing 17-21, 21-17, 21-16 to Ella Diehl of Russia. Mixed doubles pair Viki Indra Okvana and Gustiani Megawati lost in Tuesday’s qualifying round, falling 21-12, 25-23 to the host’s Florian Schmid and Ennia Biedermann. Gustiani also lost in women’s singles qualifying, 21-18, 21-19 to Elena Prus of Ukraine.
One Indonesian woman who did enjoy success was Weny Rahmawati, who now represents France. She teamed up with Laura Choinet to beat Sabrina Angehrn and Claudia Vogelsang 21-11, 21-8. She also reached the final round of mixed doubles qualifying with Sylvain Grosjean before he retired injured.
Indonesia’s last Super Series title came in November 2009 when Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir joined Markis and Hendra on the French Open podium.
