Taiwanese pitcher Wang Chien-ming has signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Washington Nationals, reports said on Thursday.

The deal adds a further $3 million in bonus payments, the Taipei-based United Daily News reported, although the paper said the former New York Yankee is unlikely to earn that much due to injury problems.

Major League Baseball’s Web site said Wang is unlikely to pitch “until sometime in May because he is still rehabbing his right shoulder” after surgery in July last year. Wang won 19 games for the Yankees in 2006 and 2007, pitching in the playoffs in both seasons, but has struggled since suffering a right foot injury in 2008.
