Angsapura Evalube Medan has yet to make an impact in the Indonesian Basketball League, and the prospects for 2010 do not look bright, either.

With only two players remaining from last season’s roster, Angsapura recruited old-timers to play in the IBL Tournament. Its makeshift lineup lost 72-47 to Satria Muda Britama at Kuningan Basket Hall on Wednesday.

“[Management representative] Jimmy Ong asked me to find players as there were only two left from last season,” Angsapura assistant manager Amran Sinta said. “We lacked physical conditioning and we only had a few days of preparation, but we’ll still take part as we’re afraid there would be a penalty from the league if we skipped the event.”

Angsapura nearly disbanded after the 2009 regular season finished, with Bobby Juneidi and Dian Heryadi the only players still under contract.

Bobby said he has not seen his old teammates since last season.

“I still get my wage because I’m still under contract until the end of the year,” he said. “Since there’s no training sessions, I train by myself because I have to keep in good shape.”

Amran’s late scramble turned up players such as former Kobatama player Nano Sukarma, ex-Satria Muda player Anthony Gunawan, who hadn’t seen action in two years, and former Aspac Jakarta forward Bugi Setiawan.

Playing in the face of long odds, Angsapura put up a decent fight against the four-time defending IBL champion.

Anthony managed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. “Not bad for a man who hasn’t played competitive basketball for two seasons,” he said.

Angsapura’s place in the upcoming IBL season is uncertain, and Bobby and Anthony said they did not plan to stay with the club long term.

In Bandung, Aspac earned its second victory as it beat Citra Satria 84-66 at C-Tra Arena.

Defending IBL Tournament champion Garuda Flexi beat Stadium Bhinneka late on Tuesday, while Pelita Jaya beat Muba Hangtuah 88-38 in Jakarta.
