Since I work in the media, I am confronted with all kinds of news every day. So, for the last seven months, the media has been covering the disappearance of this little 17-year-old sinetron starlet. She ran away from home, twice, and was found just recently in a government building. Many different parties were involved in the search for this little girl, including child protection services, all kinds of lawyers, etc.

In the heat of global warming and with our mother earth at stake due to our foolishness, urban citizens of a city such as Jakarta are reminded on a daily basis to reduce, reuse and recycle. From an ecological point of view that’s great — and we should keep on doing it — but apparently, in a city of 9 million inhabitants, according to Wikipedia, (I believe the real figure is closer to 20 million), there are other ways to interpret the three Rs.

A Bothersome Greeting at the Airport

After breathing 20 hours of crisp and fresh air in Singapore, I landed back in Jakarta. Usually the overwhelming smell of urine at the airport embraces me, but today it actually was not that bad. The airport was busy, a plane from Doha had landed at the same time and some people were lost in total confusion trying to find the right queue at the immigration checkpoint.
