Recently, the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame (NVBHOF) listed its 2014 class of inductees, the second iteration following last year’s inaugural induction which was deemed a huge success.

Headlined by heavyweight greats “Big” George Foreman and Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, the star-studded list honors the careers of some of the greatest fighters to ever step inside the squared circle.

Foreman, who had unparalleled concussive knockout power, terrorized boxing’s heavyweight division from the sixties to the nineties. Holyfield was no slouch either, known to be one of boxing’s most durable fighters, having last stepped into the ring in a 2011 TKO win over Brian Nielsen in Denmark – at the ripe old age of 49.

Both fighters are living personifications of all that the NVBHOF stands for, perfect ambassadors of the sport.

The current batch also includes ring legends Sonny Liston and Roberto Duran, among others, and media icons Col. Bob Sheridan and Yahoo’s Kevin Iole.

The NVBHOF is a non-profit organization aimed to recognize fighters who have contributed to the sport of boxing, particularly in the state of Nevada — the mecca of prize-fighting. With support going into local club boxing programs at the University of Nevada in Reno and UNLV, the development is kept close to home and aims to keep Nevada at the forefront of the boxing landscape.

The group succeeds by channelling funds into the development of youth boxing, providing aid to other boxing-related charities, and providing assistance to special needs former boxers and the like. All efforts which only help cultivate the sport that in recent years has been perceived to have fallen out of mainstream interest.

The organization also aims to provide financial assistance to those involved in the sport who are in need of such – those less fortunate boxers who after their careers have ended, fell into a life of hardship, this including helping other boxing-related organizations.

Not only that, but the NVBHOF also aims to raise the profile of youth and amateur boxing programs to help bring fresh, new blood into a sport that truly needs it.

The inductees will be awarded for their courage inside the ring, as well as their influence outside of it during a special Induction Dinner and Ceremony which will be held in Las Vegas this Summer at a time and location yet to be determined. Fan events where people can meet and greet and have access to the awardees will also be set up across multiple dates and venues. This gives people the rare chance to interact with legends like Foreman and Holyfield face to face.

Other notable names include Heavyweight legends Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey, and Light Heavyweight Archie Moore. Also on the list are officials Richard Steele and Kenny Bayless, who is still actively refereeing and is one of best officials of the modern day.
