British Supermarket Logs Christmas Miracle in Sales
British supermarket chain Waitrose said it has had its most successful Christmas ever, while Boxing Day sales across the high street were brisk, in further signs that consumer demand in Britain is picking up.
Waitrose said sales were up by 20.5 percent for the week ended on Saturday, compared with the year-earlier period, boosted by sales of ingredients such as icing, pastry and spices.
Many shoppers postponed shopping until Christmas Eve because of heavy snow that led to traffic chaos throughout Britain.
