More than 50 business and governmental leaders from 15 countries gathered in Jakarta on Thursday to discuss the future of the global economy, and will eventually present their ideas to governments around the world.
The meeting was part of the Future Global 100 Initiative (FG100), an international program to gather the collective input of business leaders as well as officials from government and intergovernmental organizations.
The program’s ultimate goal is to gather more than 350 global and national business leaders and government representatives from over 35 countries to address the future of the world’s economy.
It will produce a white paper that will summarize the views of the participants. The next meeting will be held in Australia in April.
The paper “will be circulated to governments around the world as well as the leaders who are involved in the initiatives,” said Lionel Lee, chairman of Platinum Circle Worldwide, the global business group that initiated the program.
Among the key issues addressed at the meeting were future global growth opportunities, or sources of growth; factors that may hinder future growth, such as geopolitics, major disasters and currency fluctuations, and the building blocks for sustainable future growth in markets and business.
Participants also discussed how the government and private sector could work together to support growth and create future global corporations.
Lee said that Jakarta was chosen to host the meeting to “increase the voice” of the country in the FG100.
FG100 membership consists of close to 1,000 corporations, whose combined annual revenue exceeds $1 trillion. Some countries represented in the FG100 are Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
