Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s construction company, Bukaka Teknik Utama, is expecting to start work on the Makassar monorail next year. Kalla said on Saturday that his company had been in serious talks over the details of the monorail route with the administration in the South Sulawesi capital over the last three days.

Solihin Kalla, a director at Bukaka and Jusuf Kalla’s son, said the 30-kilometer route would include the Makassar International Airport and the cities of Maros, Makassar and Gowa. “We’re hoping a feasibility study will be completed by next year followed by construction,” he said.

He added that the trains would consist of three to five cars with a maximum capacity of 300 people in each car.

The former vice president said this month that his company planned to build a monorail in Bandung as well.
