The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries wants to increase domestic shrimp farmers’ black tiger prawn production by about 10 percent over the next few years, a ministry official said on Thursday.

Soen’an H Poernomo, the ministry’s head of data and information, said the ministry planned to help farmers establish 53,000 hectares of cultivation pounds in 16 provinces and cooperate with the Public Works Ministry to improve irrigation systems, as well as subsidizing feed. Last year, the nation produced 162,355 tons of tiger prawns.
