About 1,250 staff at PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the nation’s No. 1 telecom, took advantage of an early retirement plan on Friday. “The program cost us Rp 910 billion [$96.5 million], but in the long term it could save us Rp 380 billion per year,” said Rinaldi Firmansyah, Telkom’s president director. The retirement plan was aimed at workers 48 and over, and ispart of the company’s effort to lift efficiency as it shifts its main focus from fixed-line to mobile communications.
