The United States has lowered its provisional anti-dumping duty on plastic retail bags from Indonesia to 9.18 percent from 67.18 percent.
US-anti dumping authorities have accused 13 Indonesian makers of polyethylene retail carrier bags of dumping based on the results of an investigation conducted since April 2009.
The anti-dumping duty imposed on Indonesia was the lowest among such duties imposed on other countries, such as Vietnam, Ernawati, director of international trade security at the Trade Ministry, said on Friday.
“Last week the International Trade Commission, which determines losses as a result of dumping allegations, asked for clarification. We told them that the products exported to the US were hand-made while the US alleged that they came from mass production,” she said. One of the Indonesian companies accused of dumping carrier bags in the US market would provide extra data to the ITC, Ernawati said.
