The government is planning to force privately owned cars with an engine capacity above two liters to purchase non-subsidized fuel in a bid to limit the consumption of subsidized fuel.
“We all know that it is not appropriate for private cars [above 2,000 cc] to use subsidized fuel,” Energy Minister Darwin Saleh said on Friday.
“The government is currently reviewing the scheme, but I can’t promise when it will be changed,” he added.
The government has said on several previous occasions that it will crack down on those with bigger cars using subsidized gas but it has yet to take firm action.
