Tackling Goals in 2012
What Will Your 2012 Look Like?
February is here. You have started to work on your targets for 2012 and at this point, how confident are you about achieving them? How confident are you that your business will be booming in 2012?
I find there are three things that boost confidence in achieving a goal:
1. The passion behind the goal. Why are you doing what you're doing? If the answer doesn’t thrill you or get you excited, you will most likely run into motivation problems along the way. Make sure the goal is tied to some personal dream that really means something to you.
2. The clarity of your plan. How clear are you on how you will achieve the goal? How much detail have you put into the thought process on the strategies and tactics? Look at your goal and keep asking how? Then come up with at least 20 pages of planning on the techniques that you will use to achieve the goal.
Afterward you can recap into a one-page plan, but it’s the thought process that’s important. When you have gone through this thought process, you will be more confident that you know how to achieve it. Make sure your plan includes how you will develop yourself as a businessperson.
3. Your willingness to work hard. Working smart is a great concept, but in many cases it becomes an excuse for people who are not willing to put in the necessary hard work to achieve their goals. You can only know the shortcuts after you have mastered the basics and achieved results. If you don't even know the basics of the new tasks you need to do to grow your business, don't even think of shortcuts. People who are ready to become hard workers are typically more confident in their goals because they know they are willing to give it their all.
Before doing a lot work to achieve your goal, invest adequate time to plan well. As Brian Tracy states in his book, “Eat That Frog,” one minute of planning can save you 10 minutes of execution. Make it a great month.
