Senayan City PR Officer Denies Insensitive Comments
A Senayan City public relations officer was under fire on Thursday for
comments she made in a press statement concerning a suicides at the
upscale mall on Monday night.
Sri Ayu Ningsih was reported by republika.co.id as having said the suicide was “an attempt to create a sensation.”
Reno,
a resident of Patal Senayan in South Jakarta, jumped from the fifth
floor of Senayan City mall on Monday night, less than four hours after
a 24-year-old woman named Ice Juniar committed suicide from the fifth
floor of Grand Indonesia Mall.
“I deeply regret the incident.
Why did Reno choose to commit suicide at Senayan City instead of
somewhere else such as a bridge, flyover or other tall building?” Sri
Ayu said in the statement, as quoted by republika.co.id.
“In
my opinion, this Reno seemed to seek attention. Up until now, we still
don’t know why he did that. According to CCTV footage, he seemed to
deliberately jump after he left Takemori restaurant on the fifth
floor,” the press statement reportedly said.
The representative’s statement sparked anger from readers on the Republica Web site.
Adi, a reader, wrote: “Mbak Sri, where did you learn about PR? How could you make such a statement? Speechless.”
Another reader, Dinda, asked, “Is the management human or not?”
But Sri denied ever making the comments.
“I never said that,” she told Republika on Thursday.
“We
are deeply concerned about the incident that happened to Reno,” she
said. “After he fell from the fifth floor, we brought him directly to
Pelni hospital. We even arranged everything with the police.”
