The scene: An English Court of Law.

In the witness box an English Bobby (policeman) giving evidence.

Magistrate: Constable, will you kindly tell the court what happened on the morning of the 28th instance at approximately 4am?

Bobby: (In a sing-song-plodding-kind-of-voice) I was approaching the street corner when I noticed a number of gentleman staggering under the weight of a great number of boxes. Their demeanour was highly suspicious, staggering as they were to vans parked near by. They appeared to be in a hurry and wishing to conceal their activities.

I approached the gentlemen in question desirous of ascertaining if something untoward and underhand was occuring not in conformity with the law.

"Hello! Hello! Hello!", says I, all official-like. "And what may you gentleman be up to, if I may so boldly ask, perchance?"

It was then that I recognized that the aforementioned gentlemen were friends of mine.

"What's this then?", says I. "I didn't recognize you, dressed like that. And what's the caper with all these here boxes?"

Then one of them replies, "Why, if it ain't old Budi (opps - John) says one of 'em. Why Bu- I mean 'John", we was just collecting toys for the orphanage."

"Mind if I have a look?", says I.

"By all means", says he, all nervous like.

And the boxes were full of Tempo Magazines.

"Toys!?", says I, all suspicious like, "what kind of toys are these? Them there boxes are full of high-brow magazines. Thems not toys."

"Ah, you see, Budi (sorry, - Johnny), it's a very high class, intelligent kind of orphanage. All the kids 'ad professors for fathers."

"OK", says I. "Off you go then. And I 'ope the kids enjoy reading 'em."

"Marvellous the way some people 'elp others in society, aint it, yer 'onour?"

"Precisely, Constable. Excellent police work. It is good to know we are in good hands. You may step down from the witness box."

And society breathed a sigh of relief.

Tempo magazine has decided to print another 30,000 copies of the latest issue after the first print run was scooped up by a group of mystery men before it could hit newsstands.

Windalaksana, Tempo's head of circulation, distribution and marketing, told the Jakarta Globe said the magazines were purchased from almost every one of its 29 agents in the Greater Jakarta area.

"There were massive purchases from 4 a.m and we estimate the figure reached 30,000 copes,” Windalaksana said.

Tempo’s main story for this week’s edition is titled “Rekening Gendut Perwira Polisi” (“Fat Bank Account of a Police Officer”).

The story is a look at the suspiciously hefty bank accounts of police generals.

The story is illustrated by a picture of a police officer being led by three leashed piggy banks.

Even though the article is available online, the magazine decided to reprint the missing edition.

“We have decided to reprint so that the issue can be redistributed to our readers,” Windalaksana said in their Web site, adding the reprinted edition will be available on Tuesday.

The massive purchase, according to Tempo only happened in the Jabodetabek area. They also guaranteed copies for subscribers will be delivered as usual.

"The copies for subscribers are safe, if [subscribers] subscribe officially from us, not from agents," Windalaksana said, adding that Tempo did not know the identity of the mystery buyers.

"We don't know who purchased the magazines but we always promote what we are going to publish in Monday's magazine in Koran Tempo daily's Sunday edition.”
